Papers of George W. Collamore, Boston attorney who studied law in the office of John Albion Andrew, practiced at the Boston bar, then moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1857 where he speculated in real estate, practiced law, was appointed Quartermaster General of the Kansas Militia, and served as Mayor of Lawrence. Early papers consist of deeds and notes tracing ownership of several parcels of land in Boston belonging to Collamore. Many items are in the hand of John A. Andrew, Collamore's attorney. Correspondence from the 1850s and 1860s includes many letters from Collamore to J.A.A. concerning Collamore's financial and property concerns, and affairs in Kansas just prior to and during the Civil War. (Con't) Other correspondents include Charles Robinson, Isaac W. Andrew, Amos A. Lawrence, and George C. Shattuck. J.A.A. was executor of Collamore's estate after his death in Quantrill's raid on Lawrence (1863), and the collection includes many bills, receipts, money orders, and letters pertaining to the settling of the estate. There are also Chauncy-Hall School reports and other items of Collamore's son, John Hoffman Collamore (2nd).

Charles Robinson was born at Hardwick, Mass., July 21, 1818. He was educated at Hadley Academy, Amherst Academy, and Amherst College. For 8 years he studied medicine and in 1843 opened his own practice in Belchertown, Mass. He married Sarah Adams the same year, but she died in 1846. Shattuck (Harvard, M.D. 1835) was professor of clinical medicine at Harvard Medical School from 1855 until 1874, served as dean of the Medical School, and succeeded Oliver Wendell Holmes as visiting physician to the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1849.
